The surrounding area

The South Hams area, known as the English Riviera, has some of the finest sandy beaches suitable for a range of water sports or just sunbathing and crabbing. Bigbury-on-Sea, Challaborough and Bantham offer award winning beaches with excellent facilities. There are lifeguards on duty during the summer months.

Stunning Dartmoor National Park is a little further afield as is The Eden Project for nature enthusiasts.

There are numerous golf courses locally including Bigbury Golf Club and the Dartmouth Golf and Country Club. As guests of Colmer you would be entitled to a 25% discount on green fees and able to use the health and leisure facilities free of charge at the Dartmouth Golf and Country Club.

Eating out in the area is a delight if you are lover of good food. For special occasions there is The New Angel, John Burton-Race’s new restaurant on Dartmouths harbour side or Matisse in the lovely Georgian rectory hotel at Ermington. Have an organic breakfast in the cafe at Riverford Farm Shop or lunch at Effings deli in Totnes - perhaps a cream of local cauliflower soup served with truffle oil!
